Job Title:        Executive Director
Reports to:     Board of Directors
Location:        Hybrid (Remote with required presence in Sauk Area for events)
Position Type: Part-Time (with potential to grow to Full-Time based on funding) Approximately 20-25 hours per week

 

About NAMI Sauk Area:

NAMI Sauk Area is a local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental health conditions through education, support, advocacy, and awareness. We work to reduce stigma and provide critical resources to our four counties.

 

Position Summary:

To give direction and provide leadership to ensure the achievement of NAMI Sauk Area philosophy, mission and strategy, and its annual goals and objectives. Flexible schedule including occasional nights and weekends.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategic Planning

 
  • Develop and implement organizational goals in alignment with the NAMI Sauk Area Strategic Plan, create and implement future Strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and staff to evaluate programs and plan future growth.
  • Proficient in technology including Google Docs and Quicken
  • Board Succession plan and recruiting
 
Represent NAMI Sauk Area as a community leader and voice for mental health advocacy.

 

Program Oversight

 
  • Ensure successful delivery and quality of NAMI Signature and Non-signature Programs
  • Oversee the Program and Development Coordinator Position,
  • Develop, coordinate, and manage any new Programs NAMI offers that would benefit the NAMI Sauk Area mission.
  • Oversight on Education
 

Operations & Administration

 
  • Oversee daily operations, office management and upkeep
  • Supervise staff and volunteers and coordinate volunteer appreciation (Fall) and annual (April) gathering of board members and volunteers
  • Maintain compliance with NAMI National and NAMI Illinois standards
  • Check PO box for mail and respond to daily emails, forwarding necessary emails to staff, board members and volunteers
  • Monitor cell phone and respond to phone calls and messages on a daily basis, forwarding information to appropriate person as needed
  • Manage membership drives and membership information in coordination with NAMI Illinois, and NAMI
  • Attend the NAMI Illinois Conference in October and other professional development opportunities as approved
  • Support overall outreach and community engagement efforts to advance NAMI Sauk Area mission
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President or Board of Directors
 

Financial Oversight

 
  • Deposit all moneys to the NSA account
  • Oversee and complete financial data entry, ensuring timely and accurate recording of income, expenses, and reimbursements.
  • Submit monthly reports to the treasurer by the first of each month in preparation for monthly board meetings.
  • Manage financial data entry and maintain organized, up-to-date financial records.
  • Ensure accurate financial records, timely reconciliation, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Process and pay organizational bills and expenses in a timely and approved manner.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Treasurer and Board.
  • Work with the accountant and Treasurer for annual Federal and State Tax Reporting, and Payroll.
  • Work with the Treasurer and Board to create and manage the annual budget.
  • Prepare grant budgets and submit necessary reports to funders and stakeholders.
 

Fundraising & Development

 
  • Identify and pursue funding opportunities including grants, sponsorships, and donations
  • Plan and execute fundraising (in coordination with the Program and Development Coordinator) such as the annual 5K, Bingo, Day of Giving, donor campaigns, and community engagement activities
  • Develop donor relationships and maintain accurate donor records
 

Outreach & Communications

 
  • Promote mental health awareness through outreach events, presentations, and collaborations
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools, healthcare providers, community groups, and local leaders
  • Oversees social media, newsletters, and marketing efforts
  • Participate in and coordinate radio, TV, or media interviews to promote NAMI Sauk Area
  • Scheduling, staffing and organizing outreach events
 

Qualifications:

  • Background or experience in behavioral health, nonprofit management, counseling, social work, education, or a related field
  • Knowledge and experience in nonprofit financial management, budgeting, and fiscal planning, with the ability to support the organization’s long-term financial sustainability and responsible stewardship of resources.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates success in fundraising and grant writing.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Canva, Accounting Software, and social media platforms.
  • Comfortable with public speaking, presentations, and community engagement.
  • Passion for mental health advocacy and alignment with NAMI’s mission.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the Sauk Area.
  • Occasional evening and weekend availability as needed for events and meetings.  


Compensation:

  • Part-time position, hourly wage
  • Flexible schedule and remote work options.
  • PTO accrual
  • Mileage reimbursement for approved travel per travel policy.
  • Potential for increased hours or full-time role as funding allows.
